    Presently, Mr. Mark Carney is Vice Chair and Head of Transition Investing at Brookfield Asset Management where he leads the firm’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing strategy, with a particular focus on accelerating the transition to a net-zero economy.

    For over a decade, Mark was a central banker—first at the Bank of Canada and most recently at the Bank of England. He also served as Chair of the Financial Stability Board where he helped lead reforms to address the fault lines that caused the global financial crisis. Prior to his public service, Mark worked at Goldman Sachs in their London, New York, Tokyo, and Toronto offices. Before that he studied economics as an undergrad at Harvard and completed his doctorate at Oxford. Mark was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. He now lives in Ottawa with his family.

  • Marko Papic, Partner & Chief Strategist, Clocktower Group

    VANTAGE FEATURE

    Marko is a Partner and Chief Strategist at Clocktower Group, an alternative investment asset management firm based in Santa Monica, California. He leads the firm’s Strategy Team, providing bespoke research to clients and partners on geopolitics, macroeconomics, and markets.

    Prior to joining the firm, Marko founded BCA Research’s Geopolitical Strategy practice (GPS) in 2012, the financial industry’s first dedicated political analysis investment strategy. The GPS service generated geopolitical alpha by identifying gaps between the market’s political expectations and the firm’s forecasts. Marko was a Senior Vice President and the firm’s Chief Geopolitical Strategist.

    Marko began his career as a Senior Analyst at Stratfor, a global intelligence agency where he contributed to the firm’s global geopolitical strategy as well as its analyst recruitment and training program. In his academic work, he helped create the Center for European Union Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Marko holds an MA in Political Science from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA from the University of British Columbia.

    He is the author of Geopolitical Alpha: An Investment Framework for Predicting the Future, a book that introduces his constraints-based framework to investors.

  • Chris Brown, CEO, LAPP

    Chris Brown is the President & Chief Executive Officer of LAPP Corporation, the administrator and trustee of the pension fund of the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP). The Corporation also supports the LAPP Sponsor Board. LAPP serves the health, municipal and education sectors in Alberta. LAPP is the largest pension plan in the province and 7th largest in Canada, with 280,000 members and assets in excess of C$60 billion.

    Chris is a leading pension expert who has worked with regulators and policy makers at both provincial and national levels. Chris served as Co-Chair of the Alberta-British Columbia Joint Expert Panel on Pension Standards in 2007-2008 to review private sector pension legislation in the two provinces. He served as President and Chair of the Board of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) from 2010 to 2013 and is currently a member of ACPM’s Executive Committee and National Policy Committee. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Benefits Canada.

    Prior to joining LAPP in 2015, Chris practiced law for over 20 years, with a particular focus on matters relating to the governance, investment, administration and regulatory compliance of pension plans and other employment benefits and compensation plans.

  • Evan Siddall, CEO, AIMCo

    Evan Siddall joined AIMCo as Chief Executive Officer in July, 2021. Previously, Evan served as President & Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Under his leadership, CMHC transformed itself into a client-centered, innovative, impactful organization. Evan’s three decade career in finance also includes stints with leading investment banking firms in Toronto and New York and two years as a senior executive with Irving Oil Limited.

  • Mark Wiseman, Board Chair, AIMCo

    Mark Wiseman is a leading investment manager and experienced corporate executive. He was formerly President and CEO of Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board. He was Global Head of Active Equities for BlackRock, Inc. and Chairman of BlackRock Alternative Investors, and also served as Chair of the firm's Global Investment Committee and on its Global Executive Committee.

    Previously, Mr. Wiseman was responsible for the private equity fund and co-investment program at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan; was an officer with Harrowston Inc., a publicly traded Canadian merchant bank; and a lawyer with Sullivan & Cromwell, practicing in New York and Paris. He also served as a law clerk to Madam Justice Beverley McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada.

    Mr. Wiseman was a member of the Advisory Council on Economic Growth, which advised the Canadian Finance Minister on economic policies to achieve long-term sustainable growth.

  • Keith Ambachtsheer, President, KPA Advisory Services

    Keith Ambachtsheer has been a participant in the pensions and investments industry since 1969. He is recognized as one of the globe’s most original thinkers on pension design, governance, and investing issues. Since its founding in 1985, KPA Advisory Services has become known as a trusted incubator for new thinking in pensions, and for providing strategic advice to a global clientele in person, and through the monthly Ambachtsheer Letter. CEM Benchmarking Inc., co-founded by Keith in 1991, has earned a reputation as the premier benchmarking organization in the global pensions and investments industry.

    Keith was named "One of the Most Influential People in Pensions" by Pensions & Investments and has received many honours and awards over the course of his professional career

  • Clive Lipshitz, Managing Partner, Tradewind Interstate Advisors

    Clive Lipshitz is managing partner of Tradewind Interstate Advisors, strategic consultant to a range of organizations including Actis, AECOM (one of the leading infrastructure engineering firms globally), Carlyle, Hunter Point Capital, Triple Five (a closely-held real estate developer), the Marron Institute (an NYU-affiliated think tank), the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, and others. He has also been a guest scholar at NYU Stern and is co-author of several widely cited studies focused on public pension systems, infrastructure policy, and the intersection of pensions and infrastructure. Earlier in his career, Clive established and managed strategy and product development groups at Credit Suisse Alternative Investments and at Brookfield. Previously he was responsible for strategic change management at CSFB and invested proprietary capital at PaineWebber. Clive began his career as a CPA at Price Waterhouse.

  • Alison Loat, Managing Director, Sustainable Investing and Innovation, OPTrust

    Alison Loat is the Managing Director, Sustainable Investing and Innovation at OPTrust, a Canadian public pension plan. She leads OPTrust's responsible investment program, its total fund climate change strategy, and oversees a portfolio investing at the intersection of sustainability and innovation with a focus on climate change.

    Previously, Alison was the Senior Managing Director of FCLTGlobal where she worked with asset owners, managers and companies to advance long-term investing. She’s also worked at McKinsey & Company, a healthcare technology company and was on the founding team of Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District.

    She has a deep commitment to public service. She co-founded and led the Samara Centre for Democracy, is the author of the best-selling book Tragedy in the Commons, was a Senior Fellow and instructor at the University of Toronto and the president of the Canadian Club of Toronto.

    Alison is a board member of the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), an Advisory Board member at the Max Bell School at McGill University and a governor of Ridley College. She is also a board director of Ai-Media, an ASX-listed technology company that makes educational, workplace, conference and media content accessible, and of a privately held media company.

    She received the Queen’s Gold and Diamond Jubilee Medals for service to Canada. She was also named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada. She has degrees from Queen’s University and the Harvard Kennedy School.

  • Alison McKay, CEO, SHEPP

    Alison McKay leads a team of professionals who administer the largest defined benefit pension plan in Saskatchewan, providing retirement income security for the province’s healthcare workers. As Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan (SHEPP), she works with the Board of Trustees to establish the strategic direction of the Plan, which serves 60,000 members and 50 participating employers, and manages over $9 billion in assets.

    Alison was appointed CEO SHEPP in 2014, following six years with the organisation in various senior leadership roles including Interim CEO, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Finance and Administration and Operations Manager. Before joining SHEPP she held various pension administration and financial management roles with SaskTel and SaskEnergy.

    Devoted to promoting pension adequacy and eager to support meaningful discussions about public sector pension policy, Alison participates in the broader national scene as a Co-Chair of the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council (CPPLC) and on the Pension Committee of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON).

  • Alison Schneider, Vice President, Responsible Investment, AIMCo

    Alison Schneider is Vice President, Responsible Investment at AlMCo, in Edmonton, Alberta. She established the RI function in 2011 and leads a team of 7 sustainability professionals tasked with integrating ESG considerations and exercising stewardship across five asset classes. She is a recipient of the Canada Clean 50 Award (2020), Top Project Award (2019) and University of Alberta Alumni Honour Award (2022.) A co-founder of GRESB Infrastructure (2015) her board and committee experience include the GRESB Foundation Board and committees for ICGN, the G7 ILN and PRI. Alison is a published author, (The New Frontiers of Sovereign Investment (2017) ICGN’s Guidance on Fiduciary Duty (2018), ICGN’s Guidance on Diversity (2016)), and actively contributes to the development of national and global sustainable finance frameworks. Alison is a volunteer instructor for the Canadian Climate Law Initiative, Institute of Corporate Directors and ILN’s Sustainable Infrastructure Fellowship program. She enjoys organizing local International Women’s Day events and is past-president and founder of Edmonton’s professional chapter of Net Impact (2011).re

  • Ben Hawkins, Head, Infrastructure, Renewables & Sustainable Investing, AIMCo

    Ben Hawkins leads the team of investment professionals responsible for a global portfolio of Infrastructure and Renewable Resources investments. Ben also currently serves on the board of directors for AES Clean Energy, having previously served on the boards of London City Airport, Puget Sound Energy, Grupo SAESA, Mosaic Forest Corp and Autopista Central. Ben joined AIMCo in 2007 as a Portfolio Manager with a focus on strengthening the direct investment capabilities for the asset class.

    Since becoming part of the infrastructure team, Ben has held progressively more senior positions resulting in him becoming head of the group in 2014. Ben’s previous experience includes the utility sector where he worked in several commercial roles developing and acquiring infrastructure assets across the U.S. and Canada. Prior to that, Ben worked for an advisory firm providing private capital solutions as well as developing and refining business strategy.

    Ben holds both an MBA and Undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta and is a CFA Charterholder.

  • Bertrand Millot, Head of Sustainability, CDPQ

    Bertrand Millot leads the Stewardship Investing team, which is responsible for defining and implementing CDPQ’s strategic directions, including integrating ESG factors into all activities and deploying the climate strategy. His responsibilities have three aspects: helping investment teams structure impactful investment opportunities (particularly with regard to social, climate and energy transition investments); managing risks related to ESG, climate change and reputation and contributing to the organization’s outreach in collaboration with the CDPQ Global team.

    Mr. Millot is one of the architects of CDPQ’s climate change strategy and a seasoned investor in infrastructure and corporate debt in emerging markets, fields where ESG considerations have historically been at the forefront. At CDPQ since 2015, he previously held various positions in risk management and stewardship investing, including Business Unit Risk Manager for the Fixed Income, Capital Solutions and Cross-functional Risk portfolios. He also served as Head of Climate Risk and Issues and led the Stewardship Investing team. Before joining CDPQ, Mr. Millot was CEO and CIO at Cordiant Capital, an emerging market corporate debt fund manager. Earlier in his career, he was active in infrastructure project finance with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, U.K. and with BNP Paribas in Paris, France.

    Mr. Millot holds an MBA from McGill University, a Master’s in Engineering from École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers in Paris and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D designation).

  • Bita Jenab, Director, College and Public Service Pension Boards

    Bita is a seasoned pension actuary with over 35 years of experience providing strategic advice to public and private sector organizations on retirement and employee benefits programs.

    After a career as a consulting actuary, Bita is now the Director of Research for the BC College and Public Service Pension Boards. She also chairs the Research Committee of Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council.

  • Brad Betts, Managing Director, Global Equity Research, BlackRock

    Bradley J. Betts, PhD, Managing Director, is a member of the Global Equity Research team within BlackRock's Systematic Active Equity group. He focuses on the use of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing for generating alpha. Dr. Betts has over thirty years of experience applying machine learning to problems in industry, government, and academia.

    Dr. Betts' service with the firm dates back to 2008. Prior to joining, Dr. Betts was a Scientist at Quantcast where he developed statistical models using large data sets for behavioral targeting of online advertising. Prior to that, he was a Principal Computer Scientist at NASA's Ames Research Center, a Lecturer and Research Scientist in the School of Medicine at Stanford University, and a Member of the Technical Staff at the MITRE Corporation.

    Dr. Betts is a member of the ACM, IEEE, AMS, and AAAS. He earned a BASc degree in computer engineering from the University of Waterloo and MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

  • Catherine Rothrock, Chief Economist, Government of Alberta

    Catherine Rothrock is the Chief Economist for the Government of Alberta. Her team analyzes economic trends and develops forecasts to support budget and fiscal planning for the government.

    Catherine started her career in the energy sector as an analyst in Calgary for Enron, UBS Warburg Energy, and Purvin & Gertz, an oil and gas consulting firm. She brought her experience to Alberta Energy in 2008, where she studied oil markets and developed the oil price forecast. In 2011, Catherine joined Alberta Treasury Board and Finance as a manager in the Economics, Demography, and Public Finance branch before serving as the Deputy Chief Economist. Catherine has a keen interest in development which took her to Mozambique for three years, where she worked with local NGOs and learned to speak Portuguese. She also enjoys doing some part-time tractor driving on the family farm.

    Catherine holds a Master's degree in economics from the University of Guelph.

  • Celine Chiovitti, EVP, Head of Pensions, OMERS

    Celine Chiovitti is the Executive Vice President and Head of Pensions at OMERS. She is responsible for leading a team of +400 employees in the delivery of exceptional services and prudent pension administration to over 540,000 members; including pension system transformation, member services, employer and stakeholder relations and communications . Under her leadership, the team is committed to finding innovative solutions, elevating robust operations and strengthening relationships with members, employers sponsors and stakeholders.

    She joined OMERS in 2013. Prior to joining OMERS, she spent her career in the public service, including as a Division Head at the City of Toronto, responsible for overseeing pension, payroll and benefits delivery for over 35,000 unionized and non unionized employees. Her career has been focused on service, making a positive impact in the lives of Ontarians, and the fundamental belief in the value of well run Canadian public sector Jointly Sponsored Defined Benefit pension plans.

    Celine is a certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Fellowship Status. She is a member of the OMERS Executive Leadership Team and Inclusion and Diversity Council and sits on the Benefits and Pensions Monitor Editorial Advisory Board. Across the four seasons in Ontario, she can be found cycling, hiking and walking ‘Chai’ her adorable cockapoo dog.

  • Cheldon Angus, Chief People and Technology Officer, SHEPP

    Cheldon Angus is the Chief People and Technology Officer at the Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan (SHEPP). Serving as the Governance Committee Chair for the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council (CPPLC) and Chair for the JEA User Group, he has spent his 22-year career primarily with SHEPP focusing on building the organizations privacy, security, enterprise risk and business continuity programs.

    Cheldon is passionate about people and technology and understands that people are the drivers and technology the enablers, and that relationship is ever changing and paramount to an organisation’s success. He is most proud of building a project management area for the organisation and preparing SHEPP to be resilient and operate from anywhere well in advance of the global pandemic that arrived in Canada in March of 2020.

    Cheldon holds a Bachelor of Computer Science degree and a Masters in Business Administration (Hons) from the University of Regina and Kenneth Levene Graduate Business School. He also holds a Project Manager Professional designation from the Project Management Institute and is an Certified Business Continuity Professional from the Disaster Recovery Institute of Canada.

  • Chuck Bruce, CEO, Provident10

    Chuck is a senior executive with broad based experience in finance, operations, and corporate governance.

    In December 2015, Chuck returned to Newfoundland as the inaugural CEO of Provident10. Provident10 is a private sector non‐profit corporation responsible for overseeing the assets and administration of the Public Service Pension Plan for 57,000 current and former public‐sector workers in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was previously the CEO of the Nova Scotia Public Service Long Term Disability Plan Trust Fund.

    Chuck holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA), Chartered Director (C. Dir) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) professional designations.

  • Claude R. Lamoureux, Independent Director, Former President and CEO, OTPP

    Claude R. Lamoureux was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Prior to that, Mr. Lamoureux spent 25 years as a senior financial executive with Metropolitan Life in Canada and the U.S., heading the company’s operations in Canada from 1986-1990.

    Mr. Lamoureux has served on many boards and is currently serving on the boards of Industrial-Alliance, Orbite Technologies, and the Investment Committee of La Fondation Chagnon. Mr. Lamoureux was also a Director at the OSC Investor Education Fund, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Investor Protection Fund, and the International Corporate Governance Network. Mr. Lamoureux has also been active on the Toronto Stock Exchange Board as a Member of the Task Force on Corporate Governance. He is a Co-Founder of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance.

    Mr. Lamoureux holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Université de Montréal, and a B.Comm. from Laval University. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Institute of Corporate Directors; he is also an Officer of the Order of Canada and of the Ordre National du Québec and a member of the Order of Ontario.

  • Dani Goraichy, Chief Risk Officer and Senior Vice President, Actuarial Services & Plan Policy, OP Trust

    Dani Goraichy is the Chief Risk Officer and Senior Vice President of Actuarial Services and Plan Policy at OPTrust. In this role, he is responsible for investment risk, enterprise risk, compliance and the interpretation of the OPSEU Pension Plan text and monitoring of regulatory changes. His responsibilities also include providing actuarial support for the administration and funding decisions of the Plan and supporting asset liability modeling.

    Prior to joining OPTrust in 2010, Dani was a consulting actuary for many public and private sector pension plans for over 10 years. He is currently serving as chair of the Designated Group examining meaningful stress testing of pension plans for the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

    A frequent speaker on the subject of plan design and funding, Dani is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries and has an MBA from the Ivey School of Business.

  • Darryl Mabini, Assistant Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement & Research, HOOPP

    Darryl Mabini has over 20 years of experience in the pension industry and currently at the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). HOOPP is a jointly-sponsored DB plan for Ontario’s hospital and community-based healthcare sector with over $100 billion in assets. HOOPP has more than 610 participating employers and 400,000 active, retired, and deferred members.

    Darryl leads HOOPP’s stakeholder relations and research function which consists of pension advocacy and research. His role also involves outreach to a variety of stakeholders including members and employers, unions, pension industry experts and associations, and healthcare sector advocacy groups.

    Darryl has a global executive MBA from both the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and a Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University. Darryl is a member of the Advisory Council to the National Institute on Ageing at Ryerson University, and a Board of Director for Credit Canada.

  • David Stiff, Director, CANCEA

    David has over a 15 years of experience in demographic and econometric research and numerical modelling, applying his skills learned as a computational physicist to modern economic analysis. After completing his PhD in computational physics at Queen’s University in Kingston, he held a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Germany before returning to Canada to join the team at CANCEA.

    David currently leads the development of mathematical models for economic analysis, social value, and health evaluation studies and is the lead architect behind the design of CANCEA’s agent-based statistical analysis platform. Through advanced macroeconomic modeling, this framework has allowed decision-makers and stakeholders to fully assess the value and impact of policy decisions upon the current and future productivity, finances, and well-being of members of the population.

  • Derek Dobson, CEO, CAAT

    Derek has more than 30 years of experience in the pension industry. He joined CAAT as CEO in 2009. Beyond being the CEO of one of Canada’s most sustainable pension plans, he serves as Co-Chair of the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council (CPPLC) and sits on the Board of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM). He is a member of the Pension Committee of the C.D. Howe Institute and a founding faculty member of the Masters of Trust Management Standards (MTMS) at the International Foundation of Employee Benefits and Pensions (IFEBP).

  • Drew Conway, Head of Data Science, Two Sigma Real Estate

    Drew Conway is Head of Data Science for Two Sigma Real Estate. Drew is a prominent data scientist, entrepreneur, author, and speaker. He’s built companies and has advised and consulted across many industries, ranging from fledgling startups to Fortune 100 companies, as well as academic institutions and government agencies at all levels.

    Drew has spent more than a decade working in the New York City data science and technology community. Prior to joining Two Sigma, he was the founder and CEO at Alluvium, an enterprise AI startup acquired in January 2019. Drew is also the co-founder of DataKind (2011), a global non-profit of pro bono data scientists; and currently sits on the advisory boards of multiple startups, academic institutions, and government agencies.

    Drew holds a Ph.D. in Politics from New York University and a B.A. in Computer Science and Political Science from Hamilton College.

  • Ed Waitzer, Retired Partner, Stikeman Elliott LLP

    Mr. Waitzer was Chair of Stikeman Elliott LLP from 1999 to 2006 and was a senior partner until his retirement in 2021. He remains affiliated with the firm and his practice continues to focus on complex business transactions and a range of public policy and governance matters. He is a Professor Emeritus and was the Jarislowsky Dimma Mooney Chair in Corporate Governance and Director of the Hennick Centre for Business and Law at Osgoode Hall and the Schulich School of Business at York University from 2008 until 2020. He served (1993-1996) as Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission and (until 1981) as Vice-President of The Toronto Stock Exchange. He has written and spoken extensively on a variety of legal and public policy issues and serves or has served as director of a number of corporations, foundations, community organizations, editorial boards and advisory groups. He is a Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and was an inaugural fellow of the American College of Governance Counsel. Recipient of 2018 Corporate Knights Award of Distinction. He earned his LL.B. (1976) and LL.M. (1981) from the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Called to the Ontario (1978) and the New York (1985) Bars.

  • Ehren Cory, CEO, Canada Infrastructure Bank

    As Chief Executive Officer, Ehren is focused on the CIB’s strategic direction including implementing the $10B Growth Plan to accelerate infrastructure investment in Canada and building the CIB as a results-oriented organization.

    Prior to joining the CIB, Ehren was the President & CEO of Infrastructure Ontario, a Provincial Crown Agency responsible for financing, building, and enhancing the value of the province’s infrastructure and real estate assets. In addition to his four years as CEO, he also spent four years with the Agency in executive roles responsible for the successful transaction structuring, tendering, and delivery of billions of dollars in infrastructure projects.

    Prior to joining Infrastructure Ontario, Ehren was a partner at McKinsey & Company in Toronto, where he served as a leader in the Public Sector and Capital Projects practices, advising clients in both the private and public sectors.

    Ehren is a graduate of the MBA program at INSEAD in Fontainebleau France, where he graduated with distinction. He also received an Honours degree in Business Administration (HBA) from the University of Western Ontario.

  • Ivana Zanardo, Vice President, Plan Operations, HOOPP

    Ivana Zanardo is Vice President, Plan Operations and is responsible for leading Client Services for HOOPP’s 400,000 members, and over 600 participating employers.

    Ivana’s business career spans over 25 years in both public and private sector with experience in pension benefit administration and client service. Since joining HOOPP she has been responsible for the transformation of the Client Services teams to their service model of providing personal and dedicated service to members and employers.

  • Jackie Forrest, Executive Director, ARC Energy

    Jackie actively monitors emerging strategic trends related to energy. She is an author and sought after public speaker with 25 years of experience in the energy industry. She is the co-host of the ARC Energy Ideas podcast, a weekly show that explains the latest trends and news in Canadian energy and beyond.

    Jackie is a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA). She is also a member of the Explorers and Producers Association of Canada (EPAC)’s Board of Governors. She is a former board member of Longshore Resources Ltd, a privately held exploration and production company.

    Prior to joining ARC, she was the leader of North American crude oil research for IHS CERA. Jackie has published 20 public papers on energy issues. She has co-hosted over 100 podcasts and written numerous columns, spanning all energy systems from oil and gas to clean energy, including electric vehicles, renewable power, carbon capture and biofuels.

  • Jeff Norton, President & CEO, Teachers' Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF)

    Jeff is the President & CEO of the Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund (Manitoba). TRAF has approximately 40,000 members and assets of $8.5 billion. Prior to joining TRAF in 2005, Jeff was President of Assante Global Advisors, an investment management firm based in Los Angeles. He began his career as a lawyer in Winnipeg, and concurrently served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Manitoba.

    In addition to degrees in engineering and law, Jeff is a CFA charterholder. He has served on the boards of both the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) and the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC).

  • John Bercsenyi, Vice President, Pension Policy & Funding, LAPP

    John is the Vice President, Pension Policy and Funding and is a member of the senior executive leadership team. He is responsible for pension policy and planning, benefits administration, and funding policies that support the CEO and both Boards in the prudent management and administration of the Local Authorities Pension Plan.

    John comes to LAPP with over 20 years of experience in the consulting industry delivering services and providing advice to private sector and multi-employer organizations on their pension and benefits programs. His experience includes pension and benefits strategy, plan design, benchmarking, change management, risk management, plan governance, plan administration, compliance, and actuarial valuations.

  • John Casola, Chief Investment Officer, Canada Infrastructure Bank

    John Casola leads the Investments team and is responsible for implementing the CIB’s investment and advisory strategies, including transaction advice to public sponsors, transaction structuring, capital deployment and asset management. John and his team work with project sponsors from across Canada to develop project priorities and opportunities for partnerships with private and institutional investors.

    John is a recognized leader in the Canadian infrastructure sector. He has more than 20 years of experience in lending, structuring and advising on project finance and public private partnership (P3) transactions across a variety of infrastructure asset classes. John has extensive experience advising both public and private sector organizations active in the infrastructure sector and was instrumental in advising on many “first of kind” P3 projects in Canada. John started his career practicing law at Canadian law firm Torys LLP. His previous experience also includes being Managing Partner of PwC’s Infrastructure and Government Services team in Canada and founding and managing Investec Bank’s Project and Infrastructure Finance presence in North America.

    John holds a BA in Political Science from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor. He has also completed Executive Development programs at Harvard University and at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

  • Judy Payne, Executive Director, BC Municipal Plan

    Judy Payne is the Executive Director of the British Columbia Municipal Pension Plan, where she provides strategic advice to the Municipal Pension Board of Trustees. With assets of approximately $70 billion, the plan serves close to 400,000 members and more than 900 employers in the health, local government, education and community sectors.

    A member of the Law Society of BC, Judy is the past co-chair of the of the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council and a member of the Canadian Legal & Legislative Public Sector Committee, International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans. Judy also serves on the BC Regional Council, Association of Canadian Pension Management and is the past co-chair of the Western North America Advisory Committee, Principles for Responsible Investment.

  • Kate Chisholm, Q.C., Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer, Capital Power

    A member of the executive team since 2009, Kate played an instrumental role in Capital Power’s restructuring and the initial public offering that led to the company’s creation.

    Kate leads Capital Power’s strategic and sustainability planning and reporting, market forecasting and analytics, regulatory, government relations, internal audit, ethics and compliance, stakeholder engagement, community investment and communications functions. Prior to her current role, Kate has most recently served as Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer at Capital Power, and has been responsible for legal matters affecting all of Capital Power’s activities since its inception in 2009.

  • Kevin Rorwick, Chief Operating Officer, CAAT

    Kevin is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), with more than 25 years of experience in the financial services sector with a strong background in investment operations and risk management. As Chief Operating Officer of the CAAT Pension Plan, he has responsibility for the member and employer experience, as well as finance, office administration, information technology, and communications. He is a member of the Pension Committee of the C.D. Howe Institute and has recently worked with other public pension plans on changes proposed to public sector accounting standards for pension plans. Kevin has a Honors Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

  • Kianna Adams, Head of Partnership Operations, AlphaLayer

    Kianna leads AlphaLayer’s Partnerships team, working with clients and partners through the AI development lifecycle, from idea generation to adoption. Kianna is a project management professional with experience leading complex initiatives in the investment management and not-for-profit sectors. Before joining AlphaLayer in 2020, she held investment operations roles at AIMCo and Sun Life Global Investments. Kianna was also a Program Manager at Startup Edmonton, a technology community hub helping entrepreneurs start and grow technology businesses in Edmonton. She has a Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Lynette Martin, CEO, PSPP

    Lynette Martin is the Chief Executive Officer of PSPP Corporation, the administrator and trustee of the Alberta Public Service Pension Plan and its $18 billion pension fund. Lynette leads a team of professionals in serving the PSPP’s 90,000 members and 28 participating employers. PSPP Corporation also supports Plan sponsors in setting Plan benefits and funding.

    Lynette was responsible for building PSPP Corporation’s resources from concept and implementing the Plan’s transition to a jointly sponsored bi-cameral governance structure in 2019. She continues to focus on entrenching clear governance protocols and robust decision frameworks to support the Plan.

    Lynette holds degrees in business and law. She started her career working as a professional accountant, before returning to university to become a lawyer. Lynette practiced law in Edmonton for eight years prior to joining PSPP.

  • Macky Tall, Partner & Chair, Global Infrastructure Group, Carlyle

    Macky Tall is a Partner and Chair of Carlyle’s Global Infrastructure Group, which includes efforts across transportation, renewables, energy, power, water and digital infrastructure. He is based in Washington, DC. He is also a member of Carlyle's Leadership Committee.

    Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Tall served in a series of leadership positions at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), one of the world’s largest infrastructure investors and the second largest pension fund in Canada. He also served on CDPQ’s Executive Committee and Investment-Risk Committee, served as founding Chair and CEO of CDPQ Infra, CDPQ’s subsidiary specializing in major infrastructure projects, and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ivanhoé Cambridge, CDPQ’s real estate subsidiary. Before joining CDPQ, he held several senior management positions with companies in the energy and finance sectors, namely Hydro-Québec, MEG International, Novergaz and Probyn & Company.

    Mr. Tall also sits on the Board of Directors of The National Bank of Canada, and the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund Investments Committee. In addition, he has served as co-chair of the Advisory Committee of the Global Infrastructure Facility of the World Bank.

    He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Finance) from HEC Montréal and an MBA (Finance) from the University of Ottawa. He also completed an undergraduate degree in Economics at Université de Montréal.

  • Martha Hall Findlay, Chief Climate Officer, Suncor

    Martha Hall Findlay, Chief Climate Officer, leads Suncor’s efforts to address the nexus of climate and energy, including strategic planning in collaboration with various Suncor teams, and stewarding many of Suncor’s external relationships and strategic collaborations, to build an environment that supports a future for Canadian energy. Martha was instrumental in the development of, and plays a critical leadership role on, the multi-company Oil Sands Pathways to Net Zero by 2050 initiative.

    She was named a Canadian Climate Champion in 2021 by the British High Commission and the Canada Climate Law Initiative; she was named as one of Canada’s Clean50 for 2022; she was named by the Energy Council as a top global female oil and gas executive and one of the top 275 women influencers.

    Martha joined Suncor in 2020 as Chief Sustainability Officer and played a key role in stewarding Suncor’s many external relationships and strategic collaborations in support of the company’s ongoing economic, environmental and social performance leadership.

In this role, Micheal leads the cybersecurity services, including Operations, Architecture, Identity, Access Management, and Cybersecurity Risk and Compliance. With 15 years of experience working in information security, Micheal brings a practical and results focus approach to building information security programs.

  • Neil Lloyd, Partner, Mercer Canada

    Neil Lloyd returned to Western Canada in December 2020 to take up the role of Western Canada Wealth Leader. Neil is an actuary and a Partner at Mercer, based in Vancouver, who spent nine years using his actuarial, investments and international expertise working with both defined benefit and defined contribution clients across Western Canada. In addition for much of this period Neil was Mercer’s Head of Global DC Research. In 2015 Neil focused on US becoming the Head of US DC and Financial Wellness Research. In these roles Neil was continually involved in discussions around the evolution of the Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index and co-presented with Keith Ambachtsheer discussing the Index at a Global DC Forum in June 2019.

    Neil has been selected for several industry wide roles such as the Vice Chair of the Employee Benefits Research Institute, Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association’s Executive Committee and was the Chair of the Plan Sponsor Council of America’s Thought Leadership Council.

  • Patrycja Drainville, Associate Director, Sustainable Finance, Scotiabank

    Patrycja is Associate Director of Sustainable Finance at Scotiabank where she leads the coverage responsibilities and ESG advisory solutions to Canadian corporates in the energy and consumer, industrial and retail sectors, as part of the bank’s commitment to mobilize $350 billion in climate financing by 2025. Over the past 15 years and prior to joining the bank, Patrycja worked on the frontlines of sustainability with large North American energy companies focused on disclosure, stakeholder engagement and ESG integration in corporate strategy and finance. She played a leadership role in representing the oil and natural gas sector in the recent developments of Canadian taxonomy for transition finance and collaborates actively as member in many national and global initiatives aimed at the development and growth of sustainable finance.

    Patrycja holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Calgary and an MBA from Dalhousie University specializing in Sustainable Finance. She is board member of the Canadian network of the UN Global Compact and was awarded the 2018 Young Women in Energy Award, recognizing women in the energy industry for their leadership, innovation and community service.

  • Peter Teti, Head, Private Equity and International, AIMCo

    Peter Teti leads a team of experienced professionals responsible for Private Equity and Relationship Investments. Peter joined AIMCo in 2012.

    Peter has 30 years of experience in the financial industry. Peter has led the Private Equity group since he joined and is a member of the Investment Committee. Prior to AIMCo, Peter was a Managing Director of Rothschild Canada advising organizations on mergers and acquisitions, privatizations and restructurings. Prior to Rothschild, Peter spent eight years in London in the investment banking industry advising companies on cross-border M&A.

    Peter holds a BCom (Honours) from Queen’s University, CPA, CA and ICD.D designations.

  • Ryan Shockley, Managing Director, Global Infrastructure Funds, BlackRock

    Ryan Shockley, Managing Director, joined the BlackRock Global Infrastructure Funds team ("BGIF") in 2008. The BGIF team manages approximately $9 billion in capital commitments across three vintages. BGIF invests globally in essential contracted infrastructure assets and businesses by capitalizing on the long-term trends of decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization. The BGIF team has created over 40 portfolio companies across the globe for the Funds and includes over 60 investment professionals who are located in Greenwich (Connecticut), London, Singapore, Houston and Mexico City. The BGIF team joined BlackRock in 2017 from First Reserve, a private equity firm that was founded in 1983 and created the BGIF infrastructure platform in 2008. The BGIF team raised the first two vintages while at First Reserve.

    His responsibilities include investment origination, execution, monitoring, and exit strategy. At BGIF, Mr. Shockley leads, or has led, investments in FR Warehouse, Hearthstone NextEra Partners, Western Renewable Partners and Meade Pipeline. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Prior to joining BGIF, Mr. Shockley worked at First Reserve as a Vice President in their private equity funds. Prior to First Reserve, Mr. Shockley worked at JP Morgan Investment Bank in the Financial Sponsors Group. Mr. Shockley holds a BA from Kalamazoo College, cum laude and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

  • Samantha Hill, Managing Director, Sustainable Investing, CPP Investments

    Samantha Hill is a senior leader in CPPIB's Sustainable Investing team, where she oversees global activities to consider material environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters in engagements with public and private companies and leads the team’s activities alongside investment colleagues to integrate ESG matters across investment lifecycles. Samantha is also one of several individuals leading CPPIB’s efforts to enhance climate change-related considerations in investment and asset management activities across the Fund.

    Prior to joining CPPIB in 2007, Samantha worked in multiple roles within CIBC’s Commercial Banking division related to senior debt financing for national accounts and real estate.

    Samantha holds an MBA from Dalhousie University, where she completed a double major in Finance and Environmental Management.

  • Theresa Whitmarsh, Board Director, AIMCo, Chair, FCLT Global, Co-Chair, Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership, Board Director, IFM Investors

    Theresa J. Whitmarsh is the former Chief Executive Officer of the Washington State Investment Board (WSIB), one of the United States’ leading institutional investors, managing over $185 billion of state pension, insurance, and other assets. She joined the WSIB in 2003 as Chief Operating Officer and was named CEO in 2009, a position she held through 2021.

    Theresa serves on a number of industry boards and advisory councils. She is Chair of FCLTGlobal, Co-Chair of the Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership and serves as a director on the board of IFM Investors. She holds advisory roles with several asset management firms.

    Prior to her time with the WSIB, Theresa had 20 years of experience in business, government, and media. She has a Master of Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Seattle Pacific University.

    Theresa is a past Chair of the Council of Institutional Investors and the Pacific Pension & Investment Institute, and she is also a former director of the International Centre for Pension Management, and a former external advisor on the ABP Investment Committee. She was also a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Long Term Investing and an active contributor to WEF initiatives.

  • Sheri Wright, Vice President of Stakeholder Relations and Communications, LAPP

    Sheri is the Vice President of Stakeholder Relations and Communications for LAPP Corporation and has been part of its senior executive team since 2010.

    Sheri is a graduate of the Rotman School of Management, Directors Education Program (DEP) and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

    Sheri is a founding director of the Canadian Public Sector Pension Leadership Council (CPPLC) and sits on the Board of Directors for the AIMCo Foundation for Financial Education. She spent eight years as the Board Chair for the Supplemental Integrated Pension Plan (SIPP) of the Alberta School Board’s Association (ASBA) and is a curriculum developer and instructor for the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plan (IFEBP) in its Master of Trust Management Standards program (MTMS).

    Before joining the pension industry in 2010, Sheri served as Executive Director, Corporate Communications for Alberta Health Services and Director of Communications for Palliser Health Region. Prior to working 15 years in the public sector, Sheri spent more than 20 years in the private sector, working as a print journalist. She held the position of Assistant Managing Editor of the Medicine Hat News, before moving into a career in communications.

    Sheri served 8 years as an elected school trustee in her community of St. Albert, retiring from her Board position prior to the October 2021 election. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Victoria and completed two years of graduate studies and teaching in political science at the University of British Columbia. She has a Pension Plan Administration Certificate, and a certificate in Advance Trust Management Standards (ATMS).
